History

The Young Singers of West Georgia is an elite choral group, organized to provide a unique music experience to young boys and girls. The founding year in 1995 was an unconditional success with excellence as the focus of the choir's work. The 1996-97 season brought the first major tour to St. Augustine and Orlando, followed by a trip to New York City in the 1998-99 season: both were great successes. The 2000-01 season brought an opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a major league baseball game and a nine-day tour to Canterbury and London, England which, of course, was an experience of a lifetime for all who attended. Although the choir did not tour in the 7th season due to the events of September 11th, the choir presented outstanding concerts and ended the year on an all-time high musically. Season 8 proved to be another exciting year as the tour choir returned to Orlando for fun and musical performance, while the Chamber choir traveled to New York to perform in Carnegie Hall. The ninth season of YSL sent both of these choirs in a joint tour to wonderful musical experiences in Washington, DC. 2005 brought return tours to New York City to perform in Carnegie Hall and St. Patrick's Cathedral. The opportunities that these young musicians encounter are phenomenal and rare, and are a direct result not only of the caliber of their singing, but also of the professional manner with which they rise to each new challenge and opportunity. As were the wishes of the founding conductor, Debbie Ogle, it is my hope that the children of Young Singers will be enriched as they learn about the wonders of music and as they come to understand and appreciate more of the world around them. I, too, hope that they will take with them into their adult lives the knowledge that people everywhere have similar hopes and dreams and that we can and should live peaceably with the rest of mankind.
